Donald S. "Rosie" Rosenberg, 78, of Lake Winnebago, MO, passed away May 29, 2008 at Research Medical Center. Visitation will be held from 7-8:30 pm Monday, June 2nd, at the Ararat Shrine Temple, 5100 Ararat Drive, Kansas City. A service celebrating Don's life, including a Rose Ceremony by the Royal Order of Jesters, will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, June 3rd, at the Ararat Shrine Temple. Burial will follow in the Lee's Summit Historical Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, you may honor Don with a memorial contribution to the Ararat Shrine Cornerstone Fund, 5100 Ararat Drive, Kansas City, MO 64129.
A native of Franklin Square, New York, Don was born January 18, 1930, the only child of Dr. Harry and Nan Rosenberg. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his spouses, Kathryn (the mother of his children), and Lois. In New York, Don was active with the Volunteer Fire Department in Syosset, where he served as Fire Chief from 1967 to 1969. He moved to Kansas City as a Mechanical Engineer for the Austin Company. For the past 18 years, Don owned and operated Kansas City Monument Company. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, and was currently a member of Summit Lodge #263. Don was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Kansas City. He was a very active life member of Ararat Shrine Temple. At Ararat, Don has been a member of the Patrol Unit, was a founding member and past director of the Mini Indy Unit, was a past member of the Ole Car Unit, and was currently a member and past director of the Greeter Unit. He was a member and past Camaxtli of the Order of Quetzalcoatl, was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters Court 54, the Jackson County Shrine Club. He was a devoted chairman of the Ararat Bingo Committee for 28 years, volunteering his time every Thursday night at the Temple. He also served on Ararat's Executive Board and as an Assistant Director of Uniformed Units. He was also a member of the Lee's Summit Fraternal Order of Elks and was a former member of the Blue Springs Country Club.
Don leaves his wife of 19 years, Betty; children, Jeff Rosenberg (and wife Valerie), Gary Rosenberg (and wife Joanne), Donna Reed (and husband Bryan), and Lori Allerton (and husband Billy); step- children, Jane Brooks, Linda McCambridge (and husband Jim), Greg Carnes (and wife Christina), Doug Carnes (and wife Janice), and Brad Carnes; grandchildren, Kimberly, Kaitlin, Matthew, Lindsey, Scott, Shelsea, Shara, Regan, Rachel, and Marshall; great grandchildren, Lane, Lillie and Amelia. Don's big and giving heart touched many lives in many ways. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
