Michael F. Armstrong, retired Liberty Mutual claims representative, passed away in the early morning hours of November 1, 2009, in Kansas City, Missouri, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mike was born on February 1, 1945, in Abilene, Kansas. After graduating from Abilene High School, Mike attended the University of Kansas, earning his degree in 1967. Mike spent four years in the United States Navy, and then settled in Kansas City, Missouri, where he worked in the insurance industry.
Mike was devoted to his Masonic affiliations. He was a lifetime member and extremely active in both the Rising Sun Lodge # 13 and Platte City Lodge #504. He served as a lodge officer, as a district lecturer, and as Regional Grand Lecturer, and was known throughout the state of Missouri as "Mr. Mason" for his degree work, his lectures and his support.
Mike was a long time member of Ararat Shrine and Northland Shrine Club. He
was a 32nd degree Free Mason and was also active in Eastern Star.
Preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Nellie Armstrong, Mike is survived by his brother Jim, sister-in law Patty, nephew Matt, and niece Kelsey, all of Wichita, Kansas, and by his many Lodge brothers. Services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, November 5, 2009, at White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 Northeast Antioch Road, Gladstone, Missouri, 64119. Burial will be in Abilene, Kansas at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2009.
