Gene Ewing Ingle, 85, of Tallgrass Creek Retirement Community in Overland Park, KS, passed away September 29, 2009. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, followed by services at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 2, 2009, at the Park Lawn Chapel, Hillcrest Road at 83rd Street, Kansas City, MO 64138. Burial with military honors will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, you may honor Gene’s memory with a contribution to the Ararat Shrine Hospital Transportation Fund, 5100 Ararat Drive, Kansas City, MO 64129.
Gene was born February 23, 1924 in Stanford, Illinois, the son of Milburn and Vivian (Ewing) Ingle. He was a World War II Navy veteran. During his military service, he was united in marriage to his childhood friend, Virginia Caroline Harrell, on January 1, 1946. Following military service, he attended Purdue University where he received his degree in electrical engineering in 1951. His career with the Square D Company spanned 38 years, retiring in 1987 as Vice President of International Marketing. While working for Square D, Gene lived in Ohio, Illinois and England, finally moving to Kansas in 1987 to be near his daughter and family. He was a Methodist and a freemason. He was a member of Ararat Shrine Temple, where he was active in the Patrol Unit, Sandblasters Golf Club, and volunteered to drive Shrine pediatric patients and their families to the St. Louis Shrine hospital. Gene was an avid golfer and was a former member of Loch Lloyd Country Club. He was also a golf marshal at Longview Golf Club for several years.
Gene leaves his wife of 63 years, Virginia, of the home; his daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Len Johnson of Bucyrus, KS; his grandson, Alex Johnson; a sister, Mary Ellen Hopkins of Cardiff, CA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
